Six Cornerstones of Compound Conditioning

By Greg Mihovich

Today I will discuss what kind of elements, or blocks if you wish, a well though out
and balanced program is made of. One of the reasons I call my system of
physical exercise Compound Conditioning is that it balances out all of these
elements.

Pretty much everything you would do exercise-wise could be broken down into
six key components:

•        Range of Motion (Active, Dynamic & Static)

•        General Physical Preparedness (GPP)

•        Strength (Maximum Strength, Absolute Strength, Relative Strength,
Speed Strength, Strength-Endurance & some other kinds)

•        Agility

•        Speed

•        Special Physical Preparedness (SPP)

It doesn’t matter if you are a competitive athlete or just a recreational one – your
training needs to be balanced between those six categories according to your
unique needs, as well as your strengths and weaknesses. For reasons why I
consider everybody who is into physical training an athlete you should look into
my article
Another Case for Functional Training.

The only exception from addressing all of six key components would be including
SPP training for non-competitive athletes, because they don’t have a sport,
within which they would practice their SPP skills. Although even non-competitive
folks would benefit greatly, as well as have a lot of fun, from including some
specific sport training into their exercise regimen, like kickboxing or basketball
for example.
